Claire Allain
Claire Allain makes small batches of unique one off jewellery in a variety of techniques and metals. She loves surface pattern, mark making, texture and colour, and achieves this by marrying metals to create each work. They are handmade in her studio in Perthshire, using enamel, anodised aluminium and precious metals including 24ct gold foil. She starts by enameling copper and layers colour and adds texture, firing many times until she is happy with the finish. The enameled piece is then encased in silver and anodised aluminum shapes are sometimes added—the evolution of each piece is an individual journey in itself.
