Francisca Onumah

Francisca Onumah’s work embraces an impulsive approach to silversmithing borrowing from the Japanese philosophy of Wabi-Sabi. Her making process intentionally creates and accepts “imperfections” in silversmithing.

Layering a combination of hammered and textile marks, patterned surfaces are textured with marks of a bruised nature. She uses techniques such as fold forming and various mark making techniques to cover the surfaces of her work. Displaying an anthropomorphic disposition, the vessels are characterised by vulnerable postures, leaning into each other. Contrasting and mirroring silhouettes then sit in a landscape immersed in tactility.
