Craig Stuart

Craig Stuart designs and makes unique pieces of fine jewellery using his contemporary adaptation of the Japanese metalworking technique, mokume gane. Using traditional hand forging, he makes mokume gane by fusion-bonding alternate layers of contrasting precious metals and working them to reveal swirling patterns akin to woodgrain. The patterns Craig creates are controlled throughout the process with every tool mark or hammer blow affecting the final piece. He starts with an end result in mind and pushes the metals to achieve the look he requires. The results are intricately detailed; capturing moments of movement or growth.
